Where environmental science meets cloud infrastructure

I help companies in energy, industrials and sustainability consulting build the cloud-native ESG data infrastructure that CSRD compliance actually requires — not just reports, but the systems behind them.

CSRD is not a reporting problem. It is an infrastructure problem.

Most organisations approaching CSRD compliance reach for better templates and more sustainability staff. What they actually need is cloud-native data infrastructure — systems that collect, verify, store and report environmental data at scale, with audit trails that survive external scrutiny.

Spreadsheets and disconnected tools cannot do this alone. The companies that get ahead of the deadline will be the ones that treated ESG data as an engineering challenge, not a communications one.

2024
CSRD entered into force. Large EU companies face mandatory disclosure obligations now — with SMEs entering scope progressively through 2026.
The data volume required for double materiality reporting versus previous voluntary frameworks — demanding systems, not just people.
NRW
One of Europe's most ESG-pressured industrial regions. Steel, energy, chemicals and logistics — all facing transformation simultaneously.

AWS · Data Migration

Large-scale Database Migration

Migrated a large-scale database to AWS RDS with minimal downtime and zero data loss. Developed the migration plan in collaboration with cross-functional teams and implemented robust testing strategies to ensure data integrity throughout.

AWS · Infrastructure as Code

CloudFormation Infrastructure Automation

Designed and implemented infrastructure-as-code using AWS CloudFormation, creating reusable templates for rapid, repeatable deployment of complex multi-tier applications. Enforced best practices for reliable and scalable provisioning.

AWS · Observability

Centralised Logging with LogDNA

Built a centralised logging solution integrating Lambda-based log ingestion pipelines with LogDNA. Integrated with CloudWatch monitoring for proactive issue detection and faster resolution across distributed systems.

A profile built at the intersection

I am Ejiro Elum — an environmental scientist by training and a cloud architect by practice. The combination is not accidental. After completing two master's degrees in environmental science and management, publishing peer-reviewed research in bioremediation, and working in HSE advisory and operational roles, I retrained in cloud architecture and earned my AWS Solutions Architect certification.

The reason the combination matters is straightforward: the organisations that most need cloud-native ESG infrastructure — industrial companies, energy firms, manufacturers — need someone who understands both what the environmental data means and how to build the systems that handle it. Most cloud architects have never worked in environmental science. Most environmental consultants have never designed a cloud architecture. I have done both.

I additionally completed a UX Immersion programme at KarriereFoundry GmbH in Berlin, which means I think about the human layer of the systems I build — not just the architecture underneath. For ESG platforms where non-technical stakeholders need to interact with complex data, this matters.

Based in the heart of NRW's industrial transition zone, I work remotely with clients across the EU, UK and beyond. I speak English (native), German (very good), and Urhobo (native).
